Thanks both. We had put an apprentice on a BIL before and as they had passed their planned end date when they were put on, the system wouldn't allow us to return them because their new planned end date would be earlier than their new start/return from BIL date.
ESFA helpdesk had therefore asked us to reverse the BIL as they asked us why we would implement a BIL when the funding had stopped.
Based on that we were hesitant to put this apprentice on a BIL as we will get the same error message when they return. So just wondered if we keep them live we wont have evidence of learning etc but it got me wondering if an auditor will look for evidence of learning for months that we are not being funded for.
Hope this makes sense.
The main reason to record all BIL is the introduction of the Apprenticeship Accountability Framework where one of the supplementary indicators is Learners Past Planned End Date where when over 180 days would contribute to either a status At risk or needs improvement where the number of such learners exceeds the % or number specified.

Evidence of learning after planned end date
Created
Is evidence of learning required after planned end date when monthly funding payments have stopped?
We have a learner who needs to take a break from learning but has passed their planned end date so we cannot record a BIL on the ILR. Would we still just complete our BIL paperwork when they go off and return and keep the signed AA/CS on file to show why no learning will be taking place during their BIL period?
thanks
