Learner deferring student loan degree to do apprenticeship

Created

Hi,

A potential learner enrolled on a distance learning degree funded through a student loan has expressed interest in undertaking an apprenticeship. I understand that they are not able to access funding for an apprenticeship while accessing a student loan however if the learner want's to defer the degree programme in order to undertake an apprenticeship is this allowed? If so what evidence would you expect to see to prove eligibility? Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

They cannot defer the student loan to be funded for an Apprenticeship, the loan must be terminated by the individual and you must be satisfied that this has occurred.

Thank you for your response Martin.

Just to confirm the learner would be deferring their studies but would be stopping the loan and would need to re-apply for finance as and when they decide to re-commence studying their degree. So as long as we have evidence the loan has been stopped the learner is eligible to apply for apprenticeship funding?

Thanks
