temporary absence
Created
Years ago there used to be a residency term called 'temporary absence' where a learner could have been living outside of the UK/EU but as long as they didn't break their ties to the UK i.e. sell up, close all bank accounts etc they were eligible. I cant find any reference to this in the 21/22 rules, does anyone know if this still exists?
We have a UK born learner who holds a British passport and is wanting to enrol on a AEB course with us. She has confirmed that she was living here until 2018 and she then spent 2.5 years in the US caring for her Mother who had cancer. She returned in early 2021.
I was hoping if we could obtain evidence that she still had a home here, bank accounts etc that she might be eligible, any thoughts?

It's "Ordinarily Resident" now. This certainly sounds like my definition (because there isn't really a time-based official definition) of temporary time abroad, so I wouldn't have a problem funding someone in this circumstance.
