Functional Skills English at QLS Level 2

Created

Has anyone ever come across a Functional Skills English at QLS Level 2?

It is the 'at QLS' bit that is bothering me.  Would it be accepted as an exemption?

Thanks

Joanne

Ooh, I hadn't but a quick google leads me here:

https://comparethecourse.com/courses/functional-skills-maths-at-qls-level-2

key point:

This course has been endorsed by the Quality Licence Scheme for its high-quality, non-regulated provision and training programmes. This course is not regulated by Ofqual and is not an accredited qualification.

so I'm saying:

1. nope

2. who the HECK are these charlatans charging people for a worthless "qualification"???

Thanks Steve!

I've come across them (funnily enough all on one cohort of learners, so I'm wondering if it was something the employer or an agency recommended).  We didn't accept them for the same reasons Steve highlighted and made them all do proper FS.

@Steve Hewitt resurrecting this old thread as have essentially the same question, the resource you linked is no longer active, do you have any advice on how to tell for certain if certs are acceptable or not, aside from the ESFA document (We have what sounds like identical to the original query, a CPD accredited FS English level 2 with 'QLS' in the title). Thank you!

That's what I like to see, someone doing a proper search ;)

Had entirely forgotten about this, but here's a provider still offering it:

https://www.study365.co.uk/course/certificate-in-english-speaking-skills-level-1/

where it still very much has the "This course has been endorsed by the Quality Licence Scheme for its high-quality, non-regulated provision and training programmes. This course is not regulated by Ofqual and is not an accredited qualification. " disclaimer, so it's still rubbish!

basically, if it's not explicitly on the ESFA list it's almost certainly not going to count...

@Steve Hewitt Thanks for that, it's a shame they can get away with such misleading course titles. We have had one recently where the cert says 'FS level 2', yet inputting the cert code onto the providers website shows the certificate in digital format as 'Access to FS level 2'. Dodgy!

Dear me... At this point, anything kosher done in the last ~10 years in England, Wales or Northern Ireland *should* be on their PLR because, even if the provider isn't publicly funded, the Awarding Org should be uploading it...

Another one, I think -  This one the cert doesn't mention QLS just states Functional Skills Maths/English - Level 2, but the website etc mentions QLS (plus the exam is like 20 mins and I think MCQ)

'A CPD QS accredited Certificate from One Education.'

https://www.oneeducation.org.uk/course/functional-skills-english-level-2-3/

https://www.oneeducation.org.uk/qls-courses-certificates/

Wish was something could do to stop things being referred to as 'Functional Skills' - no wonder candidates get upset/confused when they pay and take time to pursue these snake oil quals.
