NLM code 21 - Tuition Support

Created

If a learner was coded in as NLM 21 for tuition fund in 21-22 then should they be recoded in as NLM21 again if they are doing a second year with tuition support?

There is a code NLM22 now for repeat learners.

Our MI provider has automatically coded in the FAM codes for any repeat learners in 22-23 as NLM21, even though some aren't having it again. Thanks

  • Code 21 is used to identify learners whose learning has been supported by the 16-19 tuition fund. The 16-19 tuition fund is provided to support small group tuition for 16 to 19 students in English, maths and other courses where learning has been disrupted by coronavirus (COVID-19). All learners in receipt of tutoring funded by the 16-19 tuition fund must be recorded in the ILR using this code. All students who have received tutoring funded through the 16-19 tuition fund in the 2021 to 2022 academic year, up to and including the ILR period being submitted, should be recorded in each ILR submission. For more information about the tuition fund, refer to the 16 to 19 funding: 16 to 19 tuition fund. This code should not be recorded for a student who is eligible to receive the tuition fund but who has not received tutoring through the tuition fund.

  • Code 22 is used to identify learners repeating up to one full final year of 16-19 funded provision under the Repeat of final year of programme. All learners in receipt of this exceptional support must be recorded in the ILR using this code. We will use this information to calculate repeat year funding allocations in 2022 to 2023.

Your MI provider has migrated any carry over learners correctly in line with the specifications.

Hi Martin we have a small number of learners not on tuition fund this year but were last year. Will this not affect our data returns?

Martin West

I think they require the tuition fund NLM code from last year just to reflect the reality that it was claimed last year.
