Off the job hours for a 15 month Apprenticeship

Created

Hi All,

Would anyone please be able to advise me what the minimum off the job requirement would be an apprenticeship with a 15 month planned practical period?  Would you pro rata the holiday entitlement?

Many thanks for your help.

348 for 30 hours per week or more, this includes pro rata holiday entitlement as below.

Total hours 1950 less holiday entitlement 210 = 1740 hours @ 20% = 348 OTJ hours minimum.

Please can someone help me with the below.

Q1, We have a learner who is working 18 hr per week on an 18-month Apprenticeship. Following the Funding calculation the apprenticeship should be extended to 30 months? However, I have advised that this should be 28months. Q2 Can you help me work the OTJ as she is part time and term time only. This would be 39 weeks instead of 46.4.

Further to the above please can you advise working the OTJ calculation on fulltime hours be it 40 hours over 4 days or 5? These can vary to 37.5 over 4/5.

Thank you very much

The guidance for term time only is:

  1. How do term-time only apprenticeships work; are the same number of off-the-job training hours required?

Some apprentices (e.g. teaching profession and school support staff) have full time contracts (which means they continue to be paid every month) but these contracts specify term-time only contact with students (generally 39 contact weeks per year). The remainder of the year is spent on non-contact time or on leave. As their contracts are full time, and they get paid every month, off-the-job training is calculated as though these apprentices are working 52 weeks per year.

Once this calculation is complete, the training can be delivered across the 39 contact weeks, if this is what the employer wants. Note that this will likely mean delivering more than the minimum 6 hours of training in term-time weeks. However, this doesn’t have the be the same pattern every week.

From the above for an 18-month Apprenticeship the OTJ hours would be 417.6 hours

As your learner is part time at 18 hours per week the weeks on programme would need to be extended to 130 weeks (30 months) and the OTJ hours remain the same at 417.6 hours, this equates to 4.3 hours per week over the 97 term time weeks.
