A learner in care

Created

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody could help with the below:

We are in this process of an application for a learner who is currently in care, they are 17 and currently do not have a passport or drivers licence, does anybody know if there is an alternative way to evidence their identity?

(I know I should resist, but...)

What do you want/need to evidence their identity for?

eligibility for the apprenticeship?

Well, how would they prove their Right To Work? For that a Birth Cert and NI Number is sufficient, so that's effectively all we need (because they must be able to pass the Right To Work check).

There's no funding reason to see a passport or driver's licence, they're just the things most people have.

Thanks Steve, that's really helpful, are there any other processes we need to follow with a learner in care? This learner is 17 so do they not qualify for a grant? As the only one i can find is the 19-24 care leaver grant?
