Care Leave Bursary Query

Created

Hi All,

We have never had a care leaver bursary request previously so looking for some advice.

  1. Do all required documentation, evidence, and applications need to be submitted before the learner is enrolled on the programme? As we have an instance where a learner has provided evidence 5 months into the programme but we are unsure if the bursary can still be requested at this point.
  2. How much does the employer and training provider receive, and at what stage? Are the payments shown in the same report as the apprentice payment, and I am assuming (if the learner consents to employer acknowledgement) the training provider transfers payment to the employer?
  3. Once the bursary is paid out to the apprentice and possibly the employer, but the learner then decides to leave the apprenticeship, is there any requirement for the payment to be reimbursed to the ESFA? For example, is the bursary conditional to the learner completing their full apprenticeship?

Thanks

Lisa

1. Not aware of any time limit on it, can't see anything that would stop you claiming it five months in.

2. It's £1000 to the care leaver, £1000 for the employer and, as far as I'm aware, it comes in one chunk 60 days "after start":

P124 The bursary payment, due to the apprentice, will be generated 60 days after they
start. You must pass this on in full to the apprentice within 30 days of receiving this
funding from the us.

so I guess 60 days after you add it in? Will show on the additional payments report in the Period End pack, just like the 16-18 ones do.

3. No need for reimbursement, but they can only have it once, so they won't get it if they start a new one.
