QAR queries

Created

I'm struggling to find a summarised definition with the ESFA literature for:

QAR achiever

QAR leaver

QAR completer

I know this has been asked within the forum previously, but the definitions suggested don't seem to tally with what I am seeing in the data available to download from the Dashboard.

Is anyone able to advise on how to filter the spreadsheet to find the exact number of learners under each of the above categories?

I thought that QAR achiever was someone who had completed an apprenticeship by the expected end date, QAR completers were those who completed the apprenticeship after the expected end date and that leavers were those who had withdrawn, but the data for leavers in the spreadsheet does not seem to tally with the figures on the dashboard.

if the above assumptions are correct, are achievers also counter under completers?

No, that's not quite it.

An Achiever is *anyone* who passes the EPA, regardless of when that is. A Completer is anyone who completes the EPA (pass or fail), also regardless of when that is compared to planned end. And, yes, a withdrawal is kind of everyone else!

In terms of the spreadsheet, columns R and S (Completion_Status and Learning_Outcome respectively) are a good place to start and have the same values as the ILR, BUT you need to make sure you're only including QAR Inclusions (column BE) and are looking at the correct Hybrid End Year (2021 in column BA)

Once upon a time there was a thing called "timely achievement" that did use planned end but THAT DOES NOT CURRENTLY EXIST ;)

Thank you, advice gratefully received, I shall battle on looking at the data until it is all crystal clear!

hmmmm, so is it usual for data in the spreadsheet not to tally with the dashboard? one course shows 1 achiever and 1 completer (which I now know to be the same perosn, but there is also a 'late' completer and a fail in the data, so I think there should be 3 completers! I'm guessing this is where I complete the QAR query form to ESFA for specific data queries.

The data is "right", in that there's no reported problems with it this year (for kind of the first time!!!).

You've got to be careful to make sure you are counting the right people. Hybrid End Year is calculated based on the latest of Planned End, Actual End and AchDate, so this can lead to people not being in the year you expect. Also both spreadsheet and dashboard are currently showing R12 data, so any subsequent changes wouldn't be showing.

In this case, easiest thing is to look for the "missing" learner's reference number and then follow it across the spreadsheet to make sure they're included and which Hybrid End Year they are in.

If they're not there at all then quadruple check they were in your R12 *and didn't have any ILR errors*
