Strike Action - impacts on apprentices

Created

None

I have been asked by one of our programme teams what are the implications of apprentices striking are on their apprenticeship.

My first thought was its more logistically in terms of study days being affected than necessarily length of strike bringing BIL's into question (health professionals so likely to be days here and there rather than a massive block).

Any thoughts appreciated because of course I can't see anything in the funding rules.

Thanks

Helen

Oh, that is a good one (up the workers!).

I think you'd have to replan the training, as you would with any other missed session, but that brings in to question the whole idea of strikes being a removal of labour (and studying is a contractual part of these worker's terms and conditions) that shouldn't be made up subsequently...

Well exactly, I was almost giddy with glee (sad i know) at being asked it, as it was such a good question!

Given their lectures could well be on strike too soon it may become a moot point anyway...maybe i need to add this to the DFE reducing the burden as it could cause an awful lot of paperwork updates :(

Might have to ask the helpdesk.

I think it's even *more* of a point when teachers are on strike, particularly if they're hourly paid...

Some time ago, when I worked in Adult Ed (where nearly everyone was on an hourly contract), management would not let teachers reschedule classes missed due to strike action...
