Is State Pension a State Benefit for AEB full funding

Created

None

The AEB funding rules don't state means tested benefit now, maybe the second point is an issue but could the state pension be included as a state benefit for this purpose? Sorry if this is a daft question but it's never come up for me before. Thanks.

Providers may also use their discretion to fully fund other learners if both of the following apply. The learner:

  • receives other state benefits
  • wants to be employed, or progress into more sustainable employment

Short answer is yes, but it's up to each provider whether they choose to accept it and on which courses (as long as it's made clear to prospective students in your fee policy).

I always use this list of taxable and non taxable benefits as, by definition, anything considered a state benefit must be one or the other:

Income Tax: introduction: Tax-free and taxable state benefits - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Not aware of anywhere that uses the full list though (free TV licence for over 75s being the obvious one that people tend to baulk at!)

Really helpful as always, much appreciated Steve.
