Students with only one name

Created

None

Hi,

What would people consider best practice when enrolling people who "legally" only have one name? What should we return in the Forename/Surname fields in the ILR?

Thanks

Classic!

Previous prevailing wisdom has been to repeat the name in both fields, not sure if anyone has a better idea...

"Better" is certainly a matter of opinion ha.. but I've seen/heard of the following all being accepted:

  • repeated name
  • xxx
  • -

Yeah, we were told we could enter - in the surname. That was many years ago and I've stuck with that. I've been told by our International team that I absolutely must not enter the same name twice if they're on a student visa, as it messes up their records for UKVA. If you don't have any relationship with them, I guess it doesn't matter.

Thanks everyone. I think we'll go with the trusty hyphen
