Learner already has L2 En/Ma but no evidence

Created

None

If we have a learner due to start a Level 3 apprenticeship, who tells us that he has completed L2 FS in English and Maths but has no proof, should we get them to re-take the qualifications and can we claim funding for this?

Nothing is showing up on the learner's PLR.  They can't remember who the awarding body was and the centre where they studied and took their exams has closed down.

Sorry, just to clarify

Obviously we will need to get proof of L2 FS for them to pass through gateway.  I am just wondering if there is an expectation that either we or the learner should be trying to chase down their (unconfirmed) prior achievement before considering the option of re-taking the qualifications?

We'd assess them first. If they did come out as working at level 2 already (or close), we'd just enter them for the assessments, for which you can't claim funding. If the assessment clearly showed they weren't up to Level 2 standard, we'd plan some delivery first before the assessment, for which you can claim funding. If you only decide to deliver part of the content, you should reduce down the proportion of funding remaining.

Some students get confused about what they've actually done, some aren't entirely truthful, some studied at questionable providers.

Yeah, no, you're a bit stuffed there...

You need to do an initial assessment and if they come out as working at L2 or above, then, no, you can't have the money, but will have to put them through the tests. If they come out below that, then they must have some gaps that you'll need to teach them, at which point you can have the £471 because it's the "teaching them stuff" bit that determines whether you can have the money or not.

Thanks Ruth, that sounds like a good strategy and fair on all sides.

If they can chase down their results, it would save you money entering them, and the apprentice having to sit more assessments! We do strongly encourage them to chase stuff. If they are in contact with any class mates, they might know which awarding body it was, we sometimes have luck that way.

Thanks Steve too! Totally makes sense and gives us justification for our actions if we do need to claim for additional learning.
