If a student has a D-E/3-1 in Language but an A*-C/9-4 in Literature, we would claim funding for English Language. We've done that for many years, and it's never been questioned. They're not the same subject, I have no idea why Literature is treated as acceptable for Condition of Funding prior attainment. Employers and Universities won't accept Literature as an acceptable substitute for Language, so it's really important they still be able to get these funded. We actively encourage all our 16-18 students in this position to keep trying for Language. We don't get any extra funding for them if they were band 5 anyway, but it's in their interests.

Hi All - if someone has a grade C GCSE English Lit are they entitled to be funded for GCSE English Language? The funding guide states that the legal entitlement is for those who haven't achieved a grade C or higher in GCSE English, does this cover both?
Thanks for your time!
