File note should be fine if it's in the same calendar month. You'll want the ILR to show the correct date anyway, but if there's a reason (sickness etc) and it's not too delayed (and it's only a one off and not endemic) a note should suffice.
If you cross into the next month though, would strongly advise redoing the paperwork as auditors get very antsy about it...

Looking for advice please concerning practical period start dates and where an apprentice does not attend on the planned start date (perhaps due to sickness) are we required to draw up a new Training Plan and Apprenticeship Agreement to reflect the date they do actually start? Or will a file note suffice? The Apprenticeship Service works in months, not exact dates so would it matter if the amended start date fell in the same calendar month? Does anyone have any audit experience of this? Thanks
