Extensions to Apprenticeship Agreements

Created

None

A new rule for 23-34 is that if the apprenticeship is extended, the apprenticeship agreement must also be extended – see para 54.

Typically, the most common reasons for learners to require an extension to their practical period are:-

  • The learner has fallen behind with completion of Required Hours/assignments and they need to get back on track;
  • They are still working on functional skills/ but have completed other elements of the apprenticeship.

 In both instances the required OTJ hours do not need to be changed however the action of extending the planned end date in our learner platform will automatically result in an increase to the required OTJ  hours which will cause further complications in these scenarios.

Is this an issue for anyone else / and if so how are you addressing this?

thanks

The minimum Planned OTJ only has to be for the Actual or Planned duration, whichever is the lower. Late completers don't need to achieve more OTJ than for the Planned Duration. Early completers also don't need to complete the original planned OTJ, but that requires a special sign off.

You do not extend the planned end date in the ILR but only on the training plan so there will no difference to the OTJ hours recorded.

Thanks for your comments - another question - does the extension apply to new starts from 23/24 or is this for all existing apprentices as well?
