Apprenticeship - Withdrawn apprentice returning to complete

Created

Hi,

We have an apprentice, withdrawn in 23/24 who wants to return to complete 3 online exams, and 2 practicals. From previous posts, I could assume that this needs to be a restart in 24/25. However, when it comes to DAS, he has an existing entry with the original planned end date. As he is with the same employer, are they expected to submit a new one, to match his new enrolment? In addition to this, how would the total agreed price be recalculated if there was a new submission? Any support or guidance is appreciated!

This question comes up so often, they really need to write some guidance on this!

You need to make sure the old DAS was stopped, and they will need to create a new one. It wasn't a BIL so it can't carry on as far as I'm aware.

We would set the new price as the original price minus whatever funding we'd had previously. If all of that is taken up with the Assessment Price, then I can't remember what to do with TNP 1, whether it can not exist, or be set to zero, or be a random £1 that you take off TNP 2.

The new Planned End Date can be whatever you need. If they had already been at gateway before, and you don't plan to do any further delivery, you just have to give it a really short duration that doesn't represent any sort of reality (assuming you already did the minimum 365 days on the first instance). That does then seem weird if you're recording a Training price, but I'd argue that when we have apprentices whose Assessment price was less than 20%, who withdraw post gateway, we do lose some Training funding for delivery we actually did, so you're just finally able to claim what you deserved. I get why the Assessment price is withheld for EPA non-completion, but it's harsh that we can lose some Training funding too because a blanket 20% is withheld, even when that's more than just the Assessment price.

Record the new one as a Restart, but don't record an Original Start Date. It's all exactly the same whether it was a different employer or the same one.
