Hi Ruth
We do the same and record the Tech Qual and the Occupational Specialism with start dates both in Year 1. Like you also, most our T Levels deliver the Tech Qual in Year 1 and the Occ Spec starts in Year 2. Whilst we record the Occ Spec with dates that span both years, we do set the Tech Qual planned end date to the end of the first year academic year as the learners take the exams/assessments for this in the Summer series (apart from Engineering who take it in the Autumn series of Year 2). We then migrate the completed Tech Qual enrolment with the grade in to the second year. We then update the grade if they take a resit which results in a change.
The Occ Spec determines the level of funding and the Provider Support Manual states the following, so that's why we put this in Year 1:
The occupational specialism recorded will determine the level of funding the T Level programme attracts. The occupational specialism therefore, must be recorded in your data at the beginning of the first year of study.
However, the occupational specialism can be changed later in the year should the original choice change.
Kind regards, Anna
Yeah, we do have to report the Occupational Specialism in the ILR in year 1 or it errors, I just wonder if we could shove it in to the ILR when the start dates is the following year. It's definitely possible, but odd.
So you just change the grades for resits in year two if you closed the aim in year 1? That doesn't feel right, we don't do that in any other situation, but I can't think of an alternative. We definitely can't change the AED though, which Exams are then saying isn't an accurate reflection of what happened.

Resitting an aim that has a result in last year - T Levels
Created
We deliver our T Levels with the Technical Qual fully delivered in year 1, and the Occupational Specialism fully in year 2 (though our dates on both show the full duration, which I don't think is right).
For the last couple of years we've been closing the Technical Qual at the end of year 1, because they have a result. I've just discovered that the teams let some of the students resit the Technical Qual some time in year 2, and Exams have just updated the grade and Actual End Date. Obviously we can't change the Actual End Date that we reported in 23/24, so we're changing that back. Also, I assume there was no additional delivery (I need to check with the curriculum team), so no date change should have been recorded anyway. What I'm not sure about it whether we should be reporting the new grade? It won't error, but should we be changing a grade on a qual that completed last year, but we're obliged to keep in our ILR this year?
Also, just in general, what start and end dates do you record if you're delivering the two components in two distinct years? I know we had a problem with errors when we weren't reporting the Occupational Specialism in year 1, but we can now include that in our ILR even with a future year start date. The other thing was that there's some guidance I can't now find about having an Occupational Specialism from the start, which we weren't sure whether to interpret as the Occupational Specialism has to have a start date from the beginning of the T Level.
