Can someone clarify this for me please, I have a student who has achieved a 3 in Language and 1 in Literature, guidance says under 6.4 Table 2 : what a student CAN and MUST study, the student is studying functional skills English at Level 2 instead of GCSE, would there be a problem if the student continued to study the functional skills or would it be considered under the 2.5 tolerance that they are not studying GCSE.

Table 2 is clear that they have to do GCSE English to meet CoF. They could do with adding the phrase "to meet the condition of funding" in the header, as in table 1, but the intro to this section confirms that both are "must".

Are they on a full time or part time programme?

Rosemary deCruz

They are 16 on a full time programme in band 5

Needs to be GCSE then as Ruth said, if they were PT you could get away with it for FS. The COF interactive tool is really good in these scenarios;

sorry we are having a discussion at work with will CoF cover the fact the student is on the wrong subject?

Ruth Canham-James

Rosemary deCruz The guidance says they must do GCSE. If they don't, they will fail CoF. The wrong subject is still not a GCSE.
