Accurate recording of a break in learning

Created

None

We have a learner who is on a break from learning whilst they move house. Their current learning is classroom based however as their now going to be out of the area they intend to join the online course (with the same learning aim) which starts later next month. I have not had this type of break from learning before and I am not clear whether they are a temporary withdrawal from their current course and remain that way after the course has finished. I want to ensure I record this accurately.

I guess this is not an apprentice? Since we don't report delivery method in the ILR, the change doesn't matter, I'd just restart them when they do restart. The Temp Withdrawal record just stays as Temp Withdrawal. You may decide to record the delivery postcode differently on the restart.

No, it is for the Adult Skills Fund programme. Thank you for replying and your advice.

Sorry I have one more additional question on this that I am not clear on, can the temporary break in learning stretch into the next academic year. We have a learner who is unwell and  possibly unlikely to return this academic year.

Yes, no deadlines other than the qual still being available. You can report a break in your R14, but you should continue reporting that in teh following year. If they never come back, switch to a withdrawal. If they come back, add the restart. See the Migration Specification for details.

Learning aims that were closed due to a break in learning where the learner has not restarted their learning aim by 31 July 2025 and is still on a break in learning at the start of the 2025 to 2026 ILR year must be migrated into the 2025 to 2026 ILR.
