Return from Break in Learning funding query

Hi All.

We have a learner Continuing from 24/25 into 25/26, they went on a break in learning in September 2025.  They were funded as FM38 with Source of Funding 105 (ESFA).

The learner has now returned from the break in study, but our College now sits in a devolved area (East Midland Combined County Authority (EMCCA), of which the learner lives in.

My question is should they now be funded under EMMCA as Source of Funding 121 or remain as 105 (ESFA/DfE)?

Thanks

If you're recording an Original Start Date, I'd assume 38/105, but I can't find that documented anywhere. That's what we did when the Apps funding changed. If they were originally enrolled before 01/08/2017, but returned from a break after that, we were still recording them as 35 and not 36.

Thanks Ruth.

They are not an Apprentice and their start date was 17/02/2025, so will be Funding Model 38. I also thought they might have to stay as a 105 Source of Funding, due to the original start date in the ILR. I will try it and hopefully it wont error.

I understand it's not an apprentice, as devolution wouldn't impact on that. I was just making the point that the last time we dealt a funding funding stream change was when apprentices went from 35 to 36, and how we managed that regarding breaks. I suppose it was the same more recently with 35 to 38, but I don't think we had any breaks during that switchover.

Hi! Yes, put original start date and the restart flag in and they should go through as SOF 105 just fine (presume you've either got a bit of funding to deal with this in your allocation along with any other learners who crossed years or continue to have a national budget).
