DAS Start and End Dates

Created

Hi All,

Following updates to DAS inputting we have moved to using the practical/learning end date for our cohorts. However we are now getting queries from employers stating they still want the full duration (including EPA) on the cohorts therefore not approving cohorts. Is this something others are experiencing also?

We've always used the planned training end date (as the guidance was always contradictory and there was no functional consequence of doing it that way). We very rarely have queries, and they are always happy with the explanation. There's now very clear DfE guidance you can point them at which helps. The alternative is not having an apprentice.

I was concerned about what the end date changes would do to the financial projections on the employer's DAS, but they've just taken that part out so employers can't see what their levy projections are anymore. I found that quite useful when working out whether we could afford to be a sending employer.

Hi Ruth - we're having employers ask exactly this question, can you tell me where the to locate the guidance for this? (I can't seem to find it anywhere :s).

I can't find it in writing either! I know they confirmed when we asked about the new ILR pull you can do in the Apprenticeship Service, because of course that pulls through the practical period end date. It's in this webinar video at 58:00 to 59:00 ish:

They say they're getting it updated in the guidance, but I can't see that they have yet.

Thank you! I knew I'd heard this somewhere but was beginning to worry I'd just made it up. Fingers crossed they update the guidance sooner rather than later.

I'd be totally ok with sending this video to an employer if they were being difficult about it.

When the funding projections were still available on the Apprenticeship Service, I guess those just relied on DAS data, so changing the end dates to represent practical period could have potentially made a difference, but they took that out months ago. There's no reason the employer needs the end date on the cohort to be the overall end date, it doesn't impact on anything.
