So many years ago, there was the Staff Individualised Record which colleges returned. It was scrapped maybe 5/6 years ago and this is it returning, as various people have realised that this would actually be really useful data. Note carefully that it is only *requested*, not mandated, for this year and it's currently very unclear as to precisely who needs to be included. I'm expecting several updates (eg a colleague has confirmed that HEIs who do the HESA staff return don't have to do it at all) before it becomes mandatory next year...
6. Scope of the FE Workforce Data Collection Staff Data
You should complete a return if you receive funding through one or more of the
following funding models:
• 16-19 (excluding Apprenticeships)
• Adult skills
• Apprenticeships (from 1 May 2017)
• Community Learning
• European Social Funding (ESF)
• Other Adult
• Other 16-19
You should complete a staff record for an individual if they have one or more
contracts of employment between with you, the provider, during the 2020/2021
academic year and the individual works in one of the following roles:
Senior Leader: is used here as a generic job role term. Providers may use different
job titles such as principals, vice-principals, senior managers, CEOs, directors etc.
Manager: is used here as a generic job role term. Providers may use different job
titles such as Functional or people manager. Faculty, department, curriculum, or
programme lead. Advanced practitioner
Teacher is being used as a generic job role term. Providers may use different job
titles, such as lecturer, teacher, trainer, instructor or tutor etc.
Teaching Support is being used as a generic job role term. Providers may use
different job titles, such as Teaching assistant, mentor, assessor etc
Administration: Those that support the delivery of the FE provision in an
administrative capacity such as technology support staff, human resources (HR),
finance roles, admission and back office staff.
You do not need complete a staff record for an individual for the following types of
staff:
• Agency staff
• Self-employed or freelance staff
• Staff working for a provider through an intermediary, such as a personal
service company
You do not need to complete a staff record for an individual in a support role that is
not directly supporting learning, e.g. catering, maintenance or other such service
support roles.
Does anyone know if you have to return all staff or just teaching and support roles?
The guidance states You do not need to complete a staff record for an individual in a support role that is
not directly supporting learning, e.g. catering, maintenance or other such service
support roles.
Would this include admin roles? The excel template does state if the staff member is admin.
Thanks Chris
My plan is to get a good chunk of it from our (very generic!) HR system, do an Office 365 form for the rest of it (because staff have nothing else to do in October...) then shoehorn it into the "desktop application" (which appears just to be a spreadsheet?) and see what comes out...
