Contracts of employment for Apprentices and Incentives

Created

None

Please can someone advise on whether an employer who has employed someone on a casual contract or as saturday staff prior to employing them as an Apprentice on a full-time Apprenticeship contract, would be eligible to claim the current government incentives for employing an apprentice that are available to September 21?  Technically, they are not a brand new employee to the employer, but they are a new apprentice employee once they are given this type of contract as opposed to the other type.  MTIA

No they can't claim the incentive as the guidance states they cannot have been employed by the employer during the previous six months.  Will be checked through NI number.

As Sue has said, the actual wording is:

You cannot claim the incentive payment for hiring a new apprentice if: the apprentice has had a contract of employment with you starting within the 6 months prior to 1 April 2021.

Of course if they have been paying them cash in hand with no contract, that is another issue......... I've got to say I really dislike this manipulation, but I'm sure it does happen.
