Prior Learning and Minimum Duration

Created

None

We are turning a lot of applicants away who apply for the Customer Service Apprenticeship because they have had some type of work experience.  Some are school leavers who have had Saturday jobs in a hairdressers or supermarket and have therefore dealt with customers in some shape or form.  Some older learners have worked in a restaurants, bars or shops and now want to move into an office environment. This is a 12 month apprenticeship so any prior learning or experience no matter how small will make the apprenticeship ineligible as there is absolutely no room for movement.

Are we being too harsh because at this rate hardly anyone will be eligible for the apprenticeship.  I assume this would apply to many other L2 apprenticeships?

I would be interested to know how other providers are managing this.

Is there any detailed guidance on prior learning and how to measure it?

What success have you had with completing a skill scan using the KSB of the L2 in a tripartite manner, including the employer.  Possibly recommend the L3 rather than the L2?

The listed duration for this is set as 12 months typical duration, but your standard delivery could be longer for those with no experience. Even though you must reduce the content, duration, and price for those with prior experience this should give you sufficient wriggle room.
