Apprentice on ancestral visa

Created

None

We have an apprentice applicant who has been resident in the UK for 3 years who is from South Africa and is on an ancestral visa.  The visa currently expires in February 2028 and the intended apprenticeship practical end date would be September 2028 with overall end date in December 2028.  Are we able to accept the applicant onto the apprenticeship.  Our understanding is that an ancestral visa guarantees a path to extension or settlement.  Can we accept this premise or does an application for extension need to be made prior to commencing the apprenticeship?

Hi Clair,

My thought would be, as I do not believe it notes this in the funding rules but happy to be proven wrong, then you need to go with the premise that the only confirmation you have is that it expires prior to their planned apprenticeship end date and so do not have enough time on programme to complete.

Unless the helpline give you written confirmation of course.
