Hi I'm after some advice please

What would be considered an acceptable gap between completion of last learning and then the Gateway date?

I don't think there's any length that's too long? ActEndDate should be Last Learning anyway, date the gateway form signed doesn't go in the ILR (I may have changed my position on this somewhat, but that was when I assumed the form was always signed on LDIL which I now realise is not as common as I'd believed!!!)

According to the App Guidance, they are the same thing:

Final day

Defined in legislation as the final day of the practical period. This is the equivalent of the learning end date on the ILR (there must be evidence of learning on this learning end date) and internally it is also referred to as the “gateway” between the practical period and the completion of the end-point assessment. The term ‘final day’ is used as a measure in the redundancy policy to determine if the apprentice will be fully funded to completion.

Confusingly, there's a thing called Gateway to Completion which is different.

Gateway

See ‘Final day’.

Gateway to completion

Where the assessment plan for a standard has been revised (see Annex B), a check point at the end of the apprenticeship programme to ensure that the apprentice has completed all necessary requirements in line with the occupational standard and assessment plan and is ready to receive their certificate.

Italics are my emphasis. It's very confusing to have the two terms mean different things. As a provider, we use "Gateway" to refer to last day in learning, not the check point. Having said all that, I agree with Steve that there is no rules about the time between Gateway and Gateway to Completion, because the latter date isn't recorded anywhere (AED is LDIL/Gateway). If it were taking months, I'd have questions.

I found out yesterday that English and maths count towards AED at the end of an apprenticeship, so if all OTJT is done but you're waiting on English and maths completion, you haven't hit AED/Gateway anyway. (Weirdly, if there's a gap in OTJT which is long enough to require a break, the BIL AED doesn't include English/maths because you're not allowed a two month gap of no OTJT, even if English/maths is happening).

Thank you both for your comments its all v confusing I must say ..... ....as last learning can take place long before the learner has finished pulling their portfolio of evidence together for EPA,......hopefully this will be further  eased by the gradual phase out of EPA
