Morning All

Hoping you knowledgeable people can offer some insight into the new £2,000 hiring grant available from October.

Eligibility Question

We have a Hair Salon who had a Saturday Girl working during the Summer (pre July 1st) while doing GCSE's and have told us they were employed.  I have asked them to clarify if they were on PAYE as not sure on earnings rules.

The now want to progress them onto an Apprenticeship.  Will they be eligible for the Incentive

Thanks

I'm afraid I don't know the answer, you'll have to ask the Apprenticeship Service helpdesk. It did raise an interesting question in my mind though. What if an apprentice was formerly employed somewhere, then left, then went back to start an apprenticeship there? Does that count as eligible for a Hiring Payment? How do HMRC judge a gap? If there an active closedown indicator? I didn't think becoming a tax expert was going to be a requirement in this role. What about people on a zero hours contracts who haven't worked somewhere for months, who then go permanent?
