It depends how long the remaining period is.
- 168 days or more - 42 days
- 14 to 167 days - 14 days
- Fewer than 14 days - 1 day
From the Technical Funding Guide;
31. The qualifying period for apprenticeships is 42 days; it is only lower for apprenticeships when a break in learning occurs. If the apprentice takes a break in learning and then returns to learning, we will apply the qualifying period to the new programme aim before any monthly instalments are calculated. This also applies when the apprentice restarts for any other reason.
32. As an example, if an apprentice restarts an apprenticeship after a break in learning and the remaining planned period of the apprenticeship is 2 months, then the new qualifying period is 14 days.
14 days only applies where an aim is less than 168 days from start to end and has nothing to do with "restart-ness" (which is why it rarely pops up in Apprenticeships!) but if you've put an actual end that's the same as the Start date, they shouldn't be counted? Where are you seeing this? If it's not in the official data (and, despite what it said in Update last week, 21/22 doesn't seem to have been released yet?), then you need to check with whoever is compiling your Ach Rates as it looks like they've made a mistake?
Thanks for your thoughts Steve & Ben.
This apprentice has never been on BIL,
classed as a restart (brand new apprentice to us and the employer) on 1/11/21- PED 31/1/22, took back to 1/11/21 as a Leaver non achiever.
It does seem that once again the Training provider takes the hit both ways.

Qualifying period for restarts
Created
Hi everyone we have taken on quite a few restarts since Covid , who have subsequently left, i know the 42day qualifying period has already been used with the previous provider, but i am sure i have seen that the qualifying period for a restart is 14 days, i have ran our achievement reports and even though one has been taken back to the start they are still showing as a leaver and therefore impacting our achievement figures. This seems really unfair as they have not actually accrued any funding? Is this correct? They started with a previous employer and provider, restarted the same aim with new employer and provider. If this is correct I will be recommending we dont take on any restarts in the future.
