If she comes back before going on maternity leave, then yes, you'd return her in the ILR and then process the second BIL. If she commences maternity leave before coming back, then just leave the ILR as it is. The only real limiting factor as far as a BIL is concerned is whether the qualification the learner is on expires, at which point they'd need to be withdrawn. You may wish to consider the duration of the BIL in relation to your QAR though, as the ESFA would consider someone on a break to a withdrawal if;
a) they do not have a corresponding restart record in the same funding year or in the following 2 funding years, OR
b) the planned break recorded in the R14 ILR return for 2020 to 2021 has no corresponding restart record in the R04 ILR return of 2022 to 2023
Aside from that though, there's nothing 'wrong' with leaving her on a BIL until she's ready to return.

BIL and Mat Leave
Created
Hi
If a student is on a BIL and is due to return later this year, but who has now become pregnant and would be due to go on Mat leave at the time of her returning, do I need to change the ILR or do I just leave her on a BIL until her return date? This will mean the BIL will be longer than 12 months.
Thank you
