It's important to note there are 2 'start' dates on both the Apprenticeship Agreement and Training Plan:
- Apprenticeship start date - this is the date the learner has been employed as an apprentice, under an apprenticeship agreement, but isn't necessarily when they started training. In 'most' cases it will be the same as the practical period start date (usually where existing members of staff undertake an apprenticeship), but if they're completely new to the business then the apprenticeship start date may be slightly earlier than the practical period start date
- Practical period start date - this is the date that you can evidence structured learning has taken place towards the apprenticeship standard, and will be the date you use on the ILR
You'll need to take these into account when completing your paperwork with the new employer. If they joined the new employer and began work towards the apprenticeship on the same day, the dates will be the same. If not, then they won't, and your practical period start date (the ILR date) will need to be whenever you can evidence that learning has taken place since they've been with the new employer.
Can you also clarify, if an apprentice transfers to a new employer within 30 days, is the start date on the new employer's agreements the actual new employment start date?
The same logic applies to this question. The only difference is you wouldn't be withdrawing/restarting the ILR.

Can someone please advise. We have an apprentice who has changed employer more than 30 days after leaving the original employer but less than 12 weeks. We put the apprentice on a BIL as of the last evidenced day of learning with the original employer. What start date do we use on the new agreements?
a. The date they started they started with the new employer
b. The date the agreements are signed; or
c. The date learning recommenced
Also, is the restart from BIL date the same as a, b or c?
Can you also clarify, if an apprentice transfers to a new employer within 30 days, is the start date on the new employer's agreements the actual new employment start date?
