ILR Outcome grade

Created

None

Hi,

Please can I check, are we meant to be recording the academic degree grade (eg 2:1) or the EPA grade (eg pass) in the ILR outcome grade?

Thanks,

Claire

In a sense it doesn't matter because they don't do anything with it, but I'd put the EPA grade against the ZPROG (and the degree grade against the component aim if you really feel the need).

Claire Marshall

Hi Steve, thanks for your reply.

When you say ZProg, do you know what field this is meant to recorded against as we don't have anywhere to record this on APTEM?

We want to record the EPA outcome as we collect the degree outcome elsewhere.

Thanks,

You only record grades for Aim Types 3,4 and 5 and not programme aims.

Oh, never knew that!

It's not an error to record it though is it? Just thinking about "properly" graded Apps where providers might want to look at it. In a sense, for pass/fail ones, you're recording it in the Outcome anyway.

Claire, sorry, against the Programme Aim which I can't believe hasn't got a Grade field on Aptem (but, as Martin says, we don't need to/shouldn't be)?

We always record a pass/fail grade for anything that has that possibility, including programme aims. It doesn't error, and it suits us to collect it. The rules also say you don't need a grade for any pass/fail aims, the outcome is enough.

Some time ago, before the LRS showed you outcomes, it was sometimes impossible to know whether an aim had been achieved if the provider who delivered it had chosen not to include the grade (achievement date is only on the AO data, not the ILR rows). Even now, our import of PLR data doesn't include outcome, so I appreciate the grade being there.

In any case, you'd never record a component aim grade or outcome against the programme aim, they're two completely different things. What if they passed the component aim but failed the EPA?

Steve Hewitt

[cynical] Passing Comp Aim and failing/not doing EPA is a common problem, isn't it?

Ben James

Definitely not in HE. We never have people who've achieved the degree element/received professional accreditation just refuse to do the EPA because they're not bothered about an apprenticeship certificate.
