AEB Learning Support Funding

I am confused about Learning Support Funding.  How is it funded when the period of support is less than a calendart month?  Provider support manual seems to suggest putting in a EAS claim but the Funding Rules suggest this is only when the aim is delivered in less than a month rather than the support?  Also, sometimes we appear to get a £150 payment for LSF periods of less than a month and sometimes we get no payments - I can't figure out why - are we doing something wrong ??

Do you mean "less than 28 days" or "contained within one calendar month"? I *think* the key point is whether it crosses month end or not, rather than the precise duration? So a period of LSF that just covered last week, 30 Jan to 3 Feb, would generate LSF but one 1 March to 30 March wouldn't?

Either way, I think short ones that don't generate should be claimed through EAS and that rule needs clarification to cover this possibility.

Thanks, Steve. I appreciate it. Thinking about it I think that having the last day of a month in the period of support makes a difference so that would fit with the scenario you described.

Yes, it's odd. The LSF has to include the last day of the month to trigger a payment that month. If they finish mid month in a month in which you supported them, I'm actually not sure what we're supposed to do. My former boss would total up all the support we gave in a student's leaving month, where we didn't earn a payment, and claim those extra £150s in the EAS. Is that allowed? If not, you'd never get paid for the support you provided just before they leave.

Steve Hewitt

Um, kinda? I think it's "on purpose" that the last part month doesn't generate, but for multi-month claims I wouldn't do EAS unless the *total* actual cost of the Learning Support was greater than the £150 x months generated?

Steve Hewitt

So, a learner crosses 6 month ends, so would generate £900. If it's cost you £1000 to deliver to them, then the EAS would just be £100...

Ruth Canham-James

Ah yes, that is what we used to do! We'd only do it if the amount spent was above the amount earned. It's been a very long time...

One other thought, for the claims that do not generate funding but are single claims rather than multiple month, shoud the EAS claim be for a single £150 payment or for the cost of the support?  I had thought just the cost.

Steve Hewitt

Just the cost, yes.
