Actual OTJ hours when withdrawing

Created

None

Hi,

Please could I ask for how other people manage withdrawal's who are coming up to the expected end date/ past their expected end date and what they require for the OTJ hours.

I.e, if someone is withdrawing and their overall progress is at 70%, would you say that their OTJ hours need to be on par with this or at 100% as the majority, if not all of the funding has been claimed.

Hope this makes sense.

Many thanks

Sammie

Hi Sammie,

We record the actual OTJ the learner has completed up to their last day in learning, regardless if they are ahead, on track or behind in comparison with their original training plan, however if a learner is ahead or behind with their OTJ learning it should be reflected with any subsequent training plans updated on progress reviews.

ESFA did briefly put something out a year or two ago about looking at withdrawals who weren't as far ahead as would be expected with OTJ, but they withdrew that after they had a lot of feedback. There's no requirement to be at or above the expected OTJ % wise for withdrawals. However, like Kei says, you'd expect that if a student was already far behind, it would have been documented in the training plan. If the training plan was always to back load the OTJ (however bad a plan that is), then the apprentice was always going to less far through their total OTJ than their duration, in terms of percentages.
