EPA Gateway Period

Created

Just want to clarify something, regarding the EPA gateway period for Standard Apprenticeships, if a Level 3 Business Administrator Apprentice has a 3 month gateway period for their EPA, do they have to achieve their EPA within 3 months of their practical end date?

For example if a L3 Business Administrator apprentice achieves their EPA 5 months after their practical end date, would this cause issues with achievement rates or lead to a funding claw back?

It wouldn't innately cause you any issues if they achieved after 5 months rather than 3. The Business Admin standard states (as most do) that 3 months is the typical EPA period, not that it must be 3 months.

Obviously if your dates straddle the funding year (i.e., they're on/around 31st July) then there's a chance that an early/late achievement will fall into a different year, and therefore positively affect a different QAR, but providing the learner achieves, it shouldn't really matter. The only possible 'negative' consequence is that if your forecasts expected it to fall into 1 year, but in fact it fell into another, the former would have a greater proportion of leavers vs. achievers.

Hi, as Ben points out the given period is a suggestion and not a requirement, the only impact should be on the learners hybrid end date which will impact QAR rates for the given year.
