Thanks for the reply Martin, the agreed TNP2 at enrolment was accurate at the time but then by the time the learner was registered with the EPAO it was noticed that the price had increased. Wasn't sure if there would be any audit risk to reduce the TNP1 towards the end of the Apprenticeship to balance off the TNP2 increase...
I think we tend to just take the hit. Practically speaking, you're not supposed to report a total price above band max, and auditors are keen to see TNP 2 exactly match what you paid, so you just have to reduce TNP 1 to something that's not true. I don't understand why we're not still allowed to report a total price above band max. You physically can, but we're told not to.
Steve Bowler, we contacted Helpdesk about adjustments to TNP 1 & 2 costs (following an ESFA audit where we was given some incorrect information!!) and we were told, that if the TNP 2 price changes we just have to add the new lines in to show the amended price for TNP2 and reduce the TNP 1 accordingly (do not amend the original prices/dates), and as long as it is the same as the overall price agreed, it won't cause an issue.
All this will affect is the amount of completion payment you will be left with as they will only be paying the training payments based on 80% of the full agreed training cost as the 20% completion is what the EPA costs are paid from. So if the total cost is £20,000, you will get monthly payments based on £16,000 over the duration of the course and the remaining £4,000 would effectively be the completion payment, which would be where the EPA (TNP 2) cost comes from, so that shouldn't be above 20% anyway.
Thanks for the reply Tracey, I think we will end up doing something like that, add a new TNP1 and TNP2 to reflect the increased EPAO cost but lower the TNP1 to balance. As the overall cost remains the same it won't impact DAS or the monthly/achievement funding, we'd just need an updated document that shows the new breakdown of the TNP1 :-)
Tracey Richardson I don't think that's right- I believe the monthly payments are calculated using the 80% of TNP1, the completion payment is 20% of TNP1. The TNP2 payment is separate.
80% of the total overall price (not just the training price) is split into on programme payments. The remaining 20% is completion. How this is split by TNP1 / TNP2 is immaterial.
Martin Locock the App Service video explaining the breakdown of costs is quite good for this:

TNP1/TNP2 update
Created
Afternoon, just wondering if other people have had a similar situation and how best to resolve it. If we had an Apprenticeship learner and towards the end of the Apprenticeship it turns out the EPA cost is going to be more than that the TNP2 is recorded on the ILR/enrolment documents, what's the best way to update things? Do we re-negotiate the initial costs and perhaps lower the TNP1 to balance the increase to TNP2 as it doesn't seem fair to request additional money from the employer seeing as the initial negotiated cost was the band cap?
Thanks
