Overseas English and Maths qualifications

Can I ask what evidence other providers ask for when an apprentice has a English and Maths qualification from outside of the UK. Does the learner have to apply for UK Naric conversion statement?

We signpost our learners to Naric to obtain a conversion statement. You will have to inform them that there is a cost implication for this too.

Kelly Knights

Thanks Melanie. We told the learner we will pay for the naric statement, hoping thats possible?

Ben James

We ask the candidates to secure a statement of comparability themselves, at their cost, as it’s their responsibility to prove their qualifications are valid. If you wanted to pay I’m sure that’s possible, but you’re under no obligation to. We’ve had some confirmed as compatible recently via a statement and they said they’d also recommend we ask the apprentice for the actual certificates as well, for our academic records.

Hi All

How often do these statements come back confirming they are compatible? We were under the impression many "English" qualifications studied abroad would not qualify, hence the learner would need to undertake FS.

Thanks

Kelly Knights

Depends on the qualification but I have seen some that say equivalent to both Maths and English, or equivalent for one but not the other.

Ben James

Yeah, had the same as Kelly Knights. I think we've been fairly fortunate recently in that I don't actually recall the last "not comparable" we got, though the last few have been from the Coimisiún na Scrúduithe Stáit (Dept. of Education in Ireland) so I imagine the further afield you get, the more likely it is that there'll be divergences in curriculum/teaching style resulting in more negative outcomes.
