Employer incentive scheme

Created

Hi

I have a query with the employer incentive scheme for hiring a new apprentice. A number of employers are contacting us saying they are unable to progress with the application on their apprenticeship service account to claim their incentive and they don't understand why. When I look at the DAS from our end I can see that the learner is 'Live' and the start dates fit within the correct parameters. However, under 'Apprenticeship Confirmation', I'm seeing a status of either 'unconfirmed' or 'overdue'. I'm assuming this field relates to whether or not the learner has confirmed their email address (so that they can create a 'My Apprenticeship' account) but if the learner hasn't done this, does this then prevent the employer from being able to claim their incentive payment? I can't see anything in the guidance relating to this and when I try to ring the helpdesk I keep getting cut off!
Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Helen

The apprenticeship confirmation doesn't really have any bearing on anything to be honest! The guidance confirms that "Whilst the setting up of a 'My apprenticeship' account is encouraged, it is not mandatory and will not impact the apprenticeship start date or your apprenticeship funding."

Can the employers tell you what exactly their issue is? Would help in figuring out where exactly the blockage is. Otherwise, perhaps signpost them to this video from the ESFA which may/may not help - Apply for an incentive payment for hiring a new apprentice - for new hires from 1 April 2021 - YouTube

Hi Helen, not sure on the techy side of what the Employers are seeing but I do know that if the Apprentice does not confirm their details this has no impact on funding at all, it is NOT Mandatory for Learners to confirm their account.  Hope this helps.

Samantha Barker thanks so much. I didn't think it was mandatory for the apprentice to confirm their account but I had some doubts following the issues that employers are reporting. Very happy to hear that this is not a condition of employers being able to claim their payment but now need to find out what is causing the issue....wish me luck!

Hi Helen, I received the following link from one of the companies we have learners from:

https://help.apprenticeships.education.gov.uk/hc/en-gb/articles/4403039569810-Incentive-payment-for-hiring-a-new-apprentice-Provider-actions

If you click on the link it tells you of all the things that need to be in place before employer can claim the incentive.  If anything is missing/changed after the 8th of the current month, they will not be updated on their system until the following month.  Hope that makes sense and helps

Thank you Jean Parry & Ben James for your replies. I have already read the guidance and watched the video but thank you anyway for the links. I've asked our relationship manager to speak to the employer about the issue and try to figure out where it's going wrong. From the screenshot they've emailed to us I think they may be entering an employment start date that falls outside the parameters for the incentive payment (hopefully it's a typo) but it's not absolutely clear that that is the case.

Really appreciate everyone's input.
