Hi Laura Assuming this is an apprenticeship further guidance is available here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/apprenticeships-bursary-for-care-leavers/apprenticeships-care-leavers-bursary-policy-summary Depending on if the apprentice gives permission to notify their employer then both the provider and employer will get 2 x £500 at 90 and 365 days on programme. If the apprentice doesn't want their employer to know you have to code the ILR as below (extracted from the above link) but the provider still gets the 2 x £500. Hope that helps. Additional payments for training providers and employers with apprentices’ consent Separate from the bursary, additional payments are generated to training providers and employers for all apprentices aged under 19 at the start of their apprenticeship. These payments are also paid in respect of apprentices aged 19 to 24 who have an Education, Health and Care Plan or who are care leavers. Where an employer receives additional funding for a care leaver apprentice aged between 19 and 24 years old, this could alert the employer to the apprentice’s care leaver status. Training providers should make sure apprentices understand this and ask whether they consent for their employer to know their care leaver status. If the apprentice does not consent, the provider must record the Learning Delivery Monitoring code 362 ‘Apprentice care leavers’ in the ILR. This will prevent the employer payment from being generated, but the bursary and the training provider payment will still be generated. The Apprenticeship funding rules and Apprenticeships technical funding guide contain further details.

Hi Melanie I appreciate this post was a while ago but would you be able to share the documents with me as well please (s.rix@uea.ac.uk). I am trying to also understand at what point employers submit their MFA declarations - is it at a certain point each year or do they need to update and resubmit in year, for example if they have apprentices starting in January and then more in September of the same year (using levy transfer) do they need to resubmit their MFA declaration and then reconfirm to the provider that they are still under the threshold by way of another declaration to the provider as well or do they only submit MFA updates at a set point each year? Many thanks, Sarah

Hi Melanie - I know I am late to the party here but would you be able to share the MFA details above with me as well please. Also do you know if the MFA declaration is completed as a one off at a certain point each year or if it is updated in year, for example if an employer had apprentices start in January and more in September of the same year (funded via levy transfer) when would they complete their MFA to declare the transferred funds values within their MFA submission. I believe we only need to hold evidence of the employer confirming they have submitted their MFA and meet the rules which would be a different declaration/confirmation to us? Many thanks in advance Sarah s.rix@uea.ac.uk

We claimed our first care leaver with a trigger date of October as well but the payment didn't arrive. After several e-mails to the helpdesk they determined a previous provider hadn't coded the care leaver correctly to trigger the first payment and when they stared with us, although we coded everything correctly, it didn't trigger a first payment either. The employer and provider payments came through ok as expected in the remittance in R05 (employers was very obvious but I believe the providers is buried in an unidentifiable larger funding line payment) but we have now been advised to claim the first £1000 via EAS in R06 and have an e-mail authorisation. They have said this will trigger the second payment but I have queried this as the trigger date for the second payment was 7th January so I have asked how that will be triggered and paid (also due to be paid to us with R06 payments) if we are only now able to submit the first payment request. I am now on the 10 day loop of doom and will no doubt be hunting for the remaining payments in the remittances.
