Id like some clarification of 'on programme' in this change. I have a learner that completed training elements around 6 months ago and was ready for EPA but they failed Maths. This person, in my view, is still on programme? They have not withdrawn and they have not failed EPA. Would be interested in others views. Her employers are keen for her to go through to EPA without the Maths. Thanks

No guidance that I can see. Do we think this will affect existing apprentices or just those that start from today?

Thank you. They took another job and therefore they were employed at the time of the EPA (just not with the original employer) The funding rules say they must be employed but doesnt say with the same employer.

@sarah, could I get your view on how you interpret the following rule: 47.1. The apprentice has either an existing or previously issued education, health and care (EHC) plan (or one of the legacy equivalents: a statement of special educational need (SEN) or a learning difficulty assessment (LDA)). Self-declaration of a learning difficulty or a disability is insufficient. I read this that the SEN must exist either prior to or at the time the apprentice is signed up but Id like to apply it to the following scenario: I have a student who we identified had a potential SEN during their apprenticeship and eventually got a diagnosis for them. They have dyscalculia and will not be able to gain their FS Maths. Thoughts please?

Hi Eleanor, I did fund the EPA but as a small provider just cannot fund this for others. These new rules will only apply to learners starting from Aug 2023. We will have to wait and see!

Orlene, I would be interested on the ESFA reply to this (if you get anything useful other than the quoted funding rule) I have a similar situation. Basically the apprentice initially hid their status which would have provided exemption and they have been on programme for over 3 months. Thanks

Thank you Kelly, I appreciate your help with that. Can anyone help with my query on my completed learner (without Maths)?

I have a similar situation; did you get a response? I have an apprentice that went through Gateway and passed EPA (allowed during Covid) but just cannot pass their Maths.
