Hi Christine Gregory & Sam Hawkins hope you're both well. I know this is an old topic, but wondered if I could pick your brain. Do you still use Cognassist? We currently complete our own needs assessment and then provide the support ourselves once we've completed a reasonable adjustment plan. Have you had much success with finding out how well received cognassist is with auditors? We wouldn't necessarily need Cognassist to provide support modules for our apprentices, but just use it as a tool to screen for learning differences.

Thanks Martin, much appreciated, that makes sense. The regs state that the reasonable adjustments agreed must be signed with the apprentice, but is this the same for the initial assessment to determine need? We would screen apprentices who declare a support need to establish what that need is and document, then complete a reasonable adjustment plan with them. Currently we're getting the apprentice to sign the document that outlines their initial need and declaration, and then also getting them to sign the reasonable adjustment plan. Am I right in thinking that only at the reasonable adjustment plan stage is a signature needed?

Thanks both for the reply. It's just that word 'assessment' that I wanted clarification on. Currently students will declare a need and then we undertake a plan for support in how we can help remove those barriers whilst the learner is on course. We call it a learning support plan. If by assessment, you mean us in SS&W determining the appropriateness of their support and documenting, that's fine and is what we do. It's whether by assessment, you mean an actual professional diagnostic assessment of need, for example a dyslexia assessment, which would need to be paid for and then documented. I can't see that being the case, but I just wanted to clarify.
