Care Leavers bursary over 60 days since start

Created

None

We've been contacted by a learner who started in January, who has got in contact to say that they are a care leaver and wish to claim the bursary.

They initially said that they weren't a care leave on the application form. However this may have been to do with not wanting to share this information at the initial stages.

They have now completed the paperwork for us and we're preparing to make a claim. I've read on this forum that there has been an issue in previous years where this is claimed after the 60 days is this still the case? I can't see this mentioned in the Provider support manual, the funding rules or the technical funding guide. They only state that it needs to be completed in the same funding year.

We had a few last year that informed us after the 60 days and we had no issues claiming, just obtained the appropriate evidence etc and recorded in ILR.

Thanks so much Chloe.

Hi Sam Bern,

Sorry to re-open your post but just curious if you got paid for your EEF4 Care Leaver Bursary through the ILR.

We have a similar situation with an apprentice starting in June, but we haven't yet made the claim, so outside of the 60 days from start. The below (random help centre article), suggests we need to use the EAS, which I know has been posted on another post, but doesn't feel like official guidance with it not being in the other formal guidance or main bursary page.

Did you get paid directly through the ILR or did you have to submit the EAS?

Would really appreciate an update, many thanks

Louise

We did get paid both payments and hopefully the third will trigger at the right point.

The only difference that may have an effect on you is that we were doing this inside the Academic year (but in R14). I'm not sure if the learner starting in the last academic year will have an effect on releasing your payments. That might be why you'll need an EAS.

As it's so close to the next return, and assuming you have all the evidence you need. I'd probably try the ILR EEF4 route first, if the money doesn't get triggered I'd then go down the EAS.

Thanks for replying Sam Bern, this is really helpful and I'm glad it was straight forward for you.

Yes all evidence in place, the 60 days would have been within this academic year, but completely appreciate your point about it crossing year end.

Many thanks

Louise
