Hi Jessica, this looks good. And having a planned return date is basically confirming that they intend on returning so yeah agree with Kelly I think you have covered everything!

Thanks both. We had put an apprentice on a BIL before and as they had passed their planned end date when they were put on, the system wouldn't allow us to return them because their new planned end date would be earlier than their new start/return from BIL date. ESFA helpdesk had therefore asked us to reverse the BIL as they asked us why we would implement a BIL when the funding had stopped. Based on that we were hesitant to put this apprentice on a BIL as we will get the same error message when they return. So just wondered if we keep them live we wont have evidence of learning etc but it got me wondering if an auditor will look for evidence of learning for months that we are not being funded for. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks Martin. Sorry so just to clarify the re-start date would be the start date on the revised AA, even if the employer and learner sign it after that date? or would they have to sign it immediately?

Hi thought I should share this.... We had put a learner on a BIL after their planned end date and it caused an error when we returned them as the new start/return date was after the new planned end date (this is hard to explain in an email but if you test your dates you will see what I mean; as the new planned end date would have to be the original date with the BIL duration added on so physically can't be after the new start date if that makes sense) I was recently advised by the ESFA that the BIL is only to pause the funding, but the funding stops at the planned end date so a BIL is not required after this point. They also noted that they are not currently monitoring QAR's. I was advised to delete the second period of learning and amend the first to continuing learning (this is only if in the current funding year of course). You may ask why would an auditor look for evidence of learning after the date if no funding is being drawn down? perhaps just put an internal file note in the evidence pack?

thanks Kelly. I'm just wondering if I'm overthinking it or if others are evidencing these things. It would be good to know if anyone else is/is not evidencing the 2 points above?

Hi Martin do you know if the return paperwork needs to be signed on the learning start date? For example if a learner returns to work and what they are doing is evidence towards their standard so classed as learning, but we are informed afterwards, can the return paperwork (particularly the Apprenticeship Agreement which the funding is based on) be signed after the return date we are entering on the ILR, or does the new start date have to be the date we get the paperwork signed? thanks Sarah

Thanks Becky, sorry Period of Training (you were right with episode of learning). I'll speak to my colleagues and see if we can do that as the BIL was this year. thanks so much!

Thanks Becky, I dont suppose you know how we would do this? would we have to take his second POT back to start to in effect delete his return ILR? and then remove the leave details from POT 1 so his first ILR is "live" again and running to his original end date with no break?
